Women Who Build Africa Launches in Africa
Women Who Build Africa (WWBA), an inclusive group of women and non-binary individuals working in or near the ICT industry, has started operating and hosting events.
Thea Sokolowski, head of marketing at Stitch, and Gwera Kiwana, crypto founder in residence at MFS Africa, founded WWBA, which has chapters in several African regions.
The objective of WWBA is to establish an intentional location where members can meet, share what they are developing, give and receive feedback, and discover mentors, investors, workers, employers, and more. Women and non-binary persons working in or around the tech area are frequently underrepresented.
In collaboration with Yellow Card and MFS Africa, the organization will have its first multi-city Women in Crypto event on Thursday, September 22, in Accra, Ghana, and Nairobi, Kenya. The event is available to people of all sexes with the straightforward aim of involving women in the field.
Many of the women in our network verified that there isn’t really a place where we can come together to consciously talk about our experience creating in the tech sector, which is how Gwera and I came up with the idea for WWBA. There is much to be gained by simply sharing common experiences, gaining input or suggestions from other women, and perhaps even running into someone who has been in your position. We intended to greatly facilitate that. Thea Sokolowski, a co-founder of the WWBA, stated that the response so far has demonstrated the critical need for this.
In addition, WWBA co-founder Gwera Kiwana said, “We’re thrilled to partner with leading builders in the space, including MFS Africa and Yellow Card for this upcoming event, who share our mission to create more thoughtful experiences for an intentional community of underrepresented members of Africa’s tech sector.
Anyone who wants to attend either event can sign up here without cost. A developing network on the continent and in the Diaspora, WWBA has so far conducted events in Nairobi and Cape Town. Those who are interested can sign up for updates here.
