WiA Embraces Diversity and Inclusion, Says Mercy George-Igbafe, Learntor Founder
Born out of a need to bridge the digital skill gap in Africa, Women in Agile (WiA) Africa is transforming the continent through adaptation and continuous improvement.
Speaking at a press conference in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday, Mercy George-Igbafe, the convener of the WiA Africa Conference 2022 and the founder of Learntor stressed that many African youths can’t fit into over 230 million roles because they lacked the necessary tech skills. According to her, one of the goals of the conference is to let every African know that many opportunities exist.
She said although it’s a free conference that will hold virtually from the 27th – 29th January 2022, registration is compulsory. The theme for this year’s edition is “Uniting and Transforming Africa Across Agile.” The conference will be hosted in English Language, French, and Portuguese.
Renowned Nollywood actor, Fred Amata who recently became a Scrum Master showed that age is not an excuse to acquire tech skills as he recounted his story. He also has this to say,
“The world that is emerging is gravitating towards a digital one. There are over 60 million jobs within the tech landscape, and there’s opportunity to upscale.”
Bisi Alimi, a business analyst trainer and alumni of Learntor who also graced the event stated that several companies are adopting the Agile framework like never before. She further opined that anyone can adapt to an Agile role regardless of their educational background. This will give them a competitive edge not only in Africa but globally.
To round up the press briefing: Wale Bakare, the president of Junior Chambers International (JCI) Nigeria announced that the organization is excited to collaborate with Learntor on the Women in Agile Africa conference.
