VivaTech Opens Applications for 2026 AfricaTech Award
Paris-based VivaTech, organiser of Europe’s largest technology and startup event, has launched applications for the 2026 edition of its AfricaTech Award. Now in its fifth year, the award seeks to highlight African startups developing innovative solutions with strong potential to address continental challenges and scale globally.
The competition targets startups headquartered in Africa that offer products or services tailored to African markets and have secured more than US$150,000 in funding. While the award welcomes entries from across sectors, previous editions have emphasised areas such as fintech, healthtech, climatetech and edtech, reflecting the continent’s pressing needs in financial inclusion, healthcare access, sustainable development and education.
Six finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their solutions on stage at VivaTech 2026, scheduled for 17–20 June in Paris. The winner will be announced during the event’s global awards ceremony, gaining prominent visibility among thousands of international investors, corporates and media representatives. Finalists will also benefit from mentoring support and networking opportunities that can help accelerate growth.
For many African founders, the award provides a rare gateway to global ecosystems. Participation exposes startups to potential partnerships and investment at a time when African tech companies increasingly attract interest from international capital. Nigeria’s vibrant startup scene, alongside growth in Kenya, South Africa and Egypt, positions the continent as a key source of innovation in emerging markets.
Applications remain open until 16 February 2026. Interested startups can submit through the official portal on the VivaTech website.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to bridge African innovators with global resources, especially as the continent’s digital economy continues to expand despite funding constraints and infrastructure hurdles.
