Togo’s PickApp is preparing to begin a test of EV ownership and car-sharing platform.
A pilot of PickApp’s electric vehicle (EV) ownership and ride-sharing platform is scheduled to begin in Lomé, the capital of Togo.
PickApp, which was co-founded in 2023 by siblings Joseph, Joshua, and Rebecca Olurin, provides a range of services designed to make EVs more accessible to regular people.
Among these are an EV ownership service that allows drivers to buy a car on a pay-as-you-go basis and an app that allows users to access environmentally friendly EVs for ride-sharing. Additionally, the business is placing electric charging stations at strategic locations throughout Togo.
The CEO of the firm, Joseph Olurin, told Disrupt Africa, “Our app is a one-stop solution for electric mobility, not only supporting car and ride-sharing services but also allowing drivers and the public to locate, reserve, and pay for EV charging.”
We intend to expand our services to key African cities, beginning in Lomé. PickApp is spearheading Africa’s EV revolution while tackling the socioeconomic and environmental issues of the continent by facilitating greater access to electric vehicles and establishing necessary charging infrastructure.
Although PickApp is now preparing to launch its pilot in Lomé, the company is dedicated to introducing 1,000 electric vehicles by 2030.
As we get traction in the area, this will enable us to evaluate and improve our services, Olurin stated.
“Our goals are to drastically cut emissions, enhance air quality, and lessen the carbon footprint throughout West Africa.” By generating a large number of jobs, our project tackles social challenges including youth unemployment and poverty reduction in addition to environmental sustainability.
