TikTok announces SoundOn, its music marketing and distribution platform
TikTok has now announced the launch of SoundOn, its own distribution platform designed to help musicians build a career and a fanbase.
According to the SoundOn website, it is “an all-in-one marketing and distribution platform, helping you build a career and find new fans through TikTok, exclusive partners (Resso, CapCut), and on other digital streaming platforms through our global distribution service.”
For in-Bytdeance platforms such as TikTok and Resso, artists can obtain 100 percent royalty for an indefinite period of time, whereas for off-Bytedance platforms, they will receive 100 percent royalty in the first year and then 90 percent in subsequent years.
“The platform enables artists to directly upload their music to TikTok and begin earning royalties when their music is used.” SoundOn pays out 100% royalties to music creators in the first year and 90% after that, as well as a variety of promotional tools and support. “What’s offered to artists signing up is audience insight and development, expert advice from a dedicated SoundOn artist team, access to TikTok’s song tab where music is linked on profile pages, and promotional support through creator marketing on the TikTok platform,” the statement explains.
SoundOn is also currently free to use for music distribution, as the company promises to waive all transaction fees.
“New artists and musical creators are a vibrant community within TikTok, and SoundOn is designed to support them as they take the first steps in their career,” says Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music at TikTok. Our SoundOn teams will mentor creators on their path to the big stage and bring TikTok’s expertise and power to life for the artist. We’re very excited about how this will help to discover and propel new talent, as well as how SoundOn will contribute to an increasingly diverse and expanding global music industry.”
Following a period of beta testing, SoundOn is now available in the United Kingdom, the United States, Brazil, and Indonesia.
Artists in these countries can register through: https://us.soundon.global or https://www.soundon.global/.
