Proparco Group Closes Pre-Series-A Investment in Moringa to Promote its Africa Expansion
To help Moringa expand outside of Kenya, renowned investor Proparco (AFD Group) has completed a pre-series-A investment in the tech-based learning organization.
With the investment, Moringa will play a vital role in fostering African tech talent and connecting it with meaningful and substantial employment prospects, whether through full-time employment, the gig economy, or starting their own businesses.
The tech-based learning institution has started to train Software Engineers in Ghana and shortly Nigeria, building on the earlier Seed Investment by DOB Equity and USD 9.5m funding from Mastercard Foundation, with an aim to scale to other African nations in the coming 12 months. Moringa is happy to announce that Proparco recently made an investment to promote its growth outside of Kenya.
The institution is expanding to Ghana and Nigeria, so this funding comes at an exciting time for Moringa, according to CEO Snehar Shah. We are eager to use this relationship to train a lot more students using Flatiron School’s top-notch US Bootcamp curriculum. We appreciate Proparco’s assistance in bringing our courses to new markets in Africa, which is consistent with our vision of a society in which everyone has the power to shape their own future.
Moringa is a career accelerator for tech professionals in Africa. For the past 7 years, it has trained high school and university graduates in Kenya to become software engineers and data scientists, and it has trained more than 4,000 students in market leadership skills with an employment rate of more than 85%.
With Moringa recently agreeing to a curriculum license agreement with the top coding boot camp in the world, Flatiron School, and obtaining ISO 9001:2015 certification, the funding comes at an exciting time.
If someone can show they have the talent and mindset necessary to succeed, Moringa also gives them access to the training and network they need to take part in this technological revolution. The company’s aim is to develop talent and opportunity through tech-based learning experiences, which includes this. Moringa and Plenty Tech Jobs Nigeria have formed a market entry agreement following our recent launches with Impact Hub Accra and Social Enterprise Ghana. As a result of this cooperation, Moringa will play a significant role in the supply of tech talent for the Nigerian labor force. Plenty Tech Jobs is a leading platform for finding the best technology job and remote gigs in Nigeria.
Proparco’s investment will help Moringa get ready for Series A funding in 2023. The support from Proparco will enable Moringa to expand its course offerings outside of Kenya in addition to internationally. The college now provides courses in software engineering, data science, and soft skills, with plans to add UI/UX design courses soon.
Additionally, there is a noticeable rise in the demand for remote tech personnel. The pandemic drove the rise in worldwide demand for remote tech talent, according to a research issued by Google in 2021 on the Africa Developer Ecosystem. This increasing demand increased the number of job prospects for African technology experts.
