Obafemi Awolowo University to host Conference on Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Education
As nations, governments, institutions and organizations around the world are promoting and developing their entrepreneurship ecosystem, it has become obvious that entrepreneurship now holds the key to sustainable economic development in today’s world.
It can simply be put that the future of Nigeria’s growth lies majorly on how well and fast Nigeria’s entrepreneurship ecosystem can be developed, and so the need for Entrepreneurship Education in Nigeria becomes very important.
The Nigerian universities have great role to play in driving this change but they are yet to realize this great opportunity. The gap between the graduates being produced and the demands of work force from industries is huge and has resulted in great unemployment in Nigeria.
This gap can only be closed when the universities in Nigeria begin to train entrepreneurs who will graduate as business owners creating the jobs and the value need in the system. Only then will innovation thrive.
It is of interest to note that Obafemi Awolowo University is one of the universities that is set to lead the promotion of Entrepreneurship in amongst Nigerian universities. It could be recalled that in May this year, the university hosted the EduNet Conference which was focused on ways to foster Technology Entrepreneurship in Nigerian Universities. The University is now set to host her first Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship Education conference and Exhibition this month.The conference is jointly organized by the Institute for Entrepreneurship Development and Studies (IFEDS) and the Information Technology and Communications Unit (INTECU)The theme of the conference is:PROMOTING ENTREPRENEURSHIP, CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION IN NIGERIA TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS.
