Nkem Uwaje For UN
This week, Nkemdilim Uwaje will jet off to Austria and the United States of America to discuss MDG with the United Nations (UN) GAID leaders. As one of the approved judges and ambassadors of the WSYA (World Summit Youth Awards) Nkemdilim Uwaje will be in Austria to help organize and be part of the WSYA Winners Events that hold in UN HQ. NYC (New York City, USA) between the 18th and the 22nd of September 2010
Like father like daughter is perhaps the right thing to say in case you are a bit confused about the rapidity or rather accelerated supersonic developments in the globalized Information Technology Domain. Nkemdilim Uwaje is the biological daughter of Chris Uwaje, the IT Oracle of Nigeria. Her IT service to the world will not only benefit Nigerian Youths, but greatly enhance the image of Nigeria as an emerging Information and Knowledge society .
WSYA is a showcase to the world for young e-content creators, journalists and writers, application designers and technologists as well as a contribution on a global scale to addressing poverty, protecting the environment, sharing knowledge and empowering young people.
The World Summit Youth Award is promoted in all UN member states through the networks of the World Summit Award (WSA,) the UN Global Alliance for ICT, the participating UN Organisations and Agencies, the Internet Society, governments and NGOs, youth organisations and all others committed to the motivation of the project.
The WSYA is organised 2010 as a follow up activity of the World Summit on Information Society and its action plan towards the year 2015 and with a special focus on the MDG Review of the heads of state and government in September 2010. It is conducted in six categories. The finalists and category winners will all participate in the WSYA Winners Events in September 2010 in New York City.
The events will include discussions with UN GAID (UN Global Alliance for ICT and Development) leaders. Uwaje has been invited to be part of these Winner events and will be opportuned to discuss issues relating to the use of ICT for advancing the MDGs.
The UN GAID was approved by the United Nations initiative by the Secretary-General in 2006 and launched after comprehensive worldwide consultations with governments, the private sector, civil society, the technical and Internet communities and academia to promote policy dialogue and multi-stakeholder partnerships for action for the use of ICT for advancing the MDGs.
GAID is a follow-up activity of the UN World Summit on Information Society and its Action Plan from 2005, which emphasized the importance of ICT in achieving the internationally agreed development goals, including the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
GAID addressed the need for a truly global forum that comprehensively addresses cross-cutting issues related to ICT in development.
In the Winner Events will bring together the most creative and committed Youths from all over the world.
This year’s winners include 2 Nigerians. In the categories of FIGHT POVERTY, HUNGER & DISEASE – Mr. Ikegwuonu Nnaemeka, who won the 2nd place with his project“ The Smallholders Farmers Rural Radio”(http://www.smallholdersfoundation.org ) and in the category of POWER 2 WOMEN! – Mr. Dotun Adewunmi is one of the Runners up with his project titled Mother Nature (http://dotunsblog.wordpress.com ).
