Nigerian, Ethiopian Startups can now Apply for the EatSafe Innovation Challenge
The EatSafe Innovation Challenge, organized by Feed the Future in collaboration with the SUN Business Network (SBN) and the Innovative Food System Portal, is searching for businesses, students, researchers, and other innovators in Nigeria and Ethiopia who are concerned about food safety.
The EatSafe Innovation Challenge invites innovators to offer their thoughts on how existing food safety solutions could be adapted and implemented in traditional Nigerian and Ethiopian marketplaces.
The challenge will be placed from April to October 2022 as a global initiative, featuring national pitching events in Nigeria and Ethiopia, as well as a global final event in Denmark.
Entrepreneurs, students, researchers, and other innovators based in Nigeria or Ethiopia are eligible for this opportunity. You must be available to travel in October 2022 and follow all Danish travel regulations.
Food safety and nutritional benefit, feasibility, adaptation in low-and middle-income nations, scalability, and environmental sensitivity will be rated on a scale of 1-5, with 1 being the lowest score (bad) and 5 being the best score (excellent) against the 5 selection criteria.
Participants will gain national and international exposure, recognition, mentorship, technical training, and networking opportunities with leading industry players, investors, researchers, and academia. In addition, four winners from the National EatSafe Innovation Challenges will be announced and promoted in an online event.
They will also receive technical assistance from the IFSS portal team in a design workshop to enhance their idea, as well as mentoring from a local food safety expert to prepare the finalists to submit their proposal at the final Demo Day.
Following that, four champions from each national competition will be picked to compete in the Global EatSafe Innovation Challenge Finals, which will be held in Denmark in September 2022. Participants in the global finals have a chance to win USD 10,000. The EatSafe Challenge’s uniqueness lies in the journey the team takes the shortlisted participant on from the application process to the final pitch.
There is still time to apply here until April 30.
