Nigerian Creators Set to Earn as Meta Unveils WhatsApp Revenue Features

In a significant step to turn WhatsApp into a platform that generates income for content producers in Nigeria and other nations, Meta has unveiled three potent new features that will drastically alter the user experience, particularly for channel followers, businesses, and content providers. The most recent changes focus on WhatsApp’s “Updates” tab and offer ways to monetize Status, Channels, and sponsored content without interfering with private chats.
The Trumpet Newspaper claims that Meta said that the new capabilities will give users access to richer, more curated content experiences while enabling businesses and creators to make money directly on the platform. Similar to Instagram Stories, these features include promoted channels, channel subscriptions, and advertisements in WhatsApp Status.
How It Works:
Status Ads, Targeted Promotion, and Exclusive Subscriptions
With more than 1.5 billion users worldwide, WhatsApp’s new revenue-generating features are anticipated to completely transform the way creators and marketers interact with their audiences. One of the standout features is Channel Subscriptions, which allows users to get exclusive updates from sports teams, news organizations, and content providers for a monthly price.
Promoted Channels is another important aspect. WhatsApp will recommend channels based on user preferences and let creators or companies pay for more exposure. This creates effective internal platform promotion opportunities.
With the third upgrade, companies can now display image or video advertising in WhatsApp Status, which users will see when they view updates. This makes it simple to find new brands or have fast chats with advertisers.
Meta maintains that privacy won’t be jeopardized by the push for monetization, despite worries over user data. Personal messages, calls, group conversations, and even status updates will remain end-to-end encrypted, the business said in a statement.
“We’ll never sell or share your phone number with advertisers,” Meta stated. “To show relevant ads in Status or Channels, we’ll only use limited information like your city, language, followed channels, and how you interact with ads.”
According to Meta, the features will be released progressively over the course of the upcoming months. The official WhatsApp Business website and its support channels will provide more information. Despite regulatory pressure on Meta and WhatsApp, including a recent $220 million punishment from the Nigerian government, the company has not made any exceptions for the region in this rollout.
Meta has also confirmed that older Android and iPhone phones would no longer be able to use WhatsApp. It has been suggested that users with devices that are not supported update in order to keep using the app.
As a result of this big change, WhatsApp is evolving into an effective tool for content creators, business owners, and digital marketers looking to make money off of their work in a safe and private environment.
