Nigeria Youth Future Fund Opens $500,000 Grant Cycle for 2026 Leadership Development

The Nigeria Youth Future Fund (NYFF) has launched its 2026 call for applications, to support youth-led projects focused on governance, social cohesion, and sustainable development. This latest funding cycle seeks to strengthen the capacity of young Nigerians to drive systemic change through community-based and national initiatives.

The NYFF, a five-year initiative, operates as a collaborative effort between LEAP Africa, the Ford Foundation, and the MacArthur Foundation. By providing financial resources and mentorship, the fund aims to bridge the gap between grassroots activism and policy influence in Nigeria’s evolving socio-political landscape.

Strategic Focus and Grant Categories

For the 2026 cycle, the fund is structured to address specific tiers of organizational maturity and project scale. According to the official guidelines released by the Nigeria Youth Future Fund, the grants are divided into three distinct categories:

• Individual Grants: Targeted at young change-makers and social entrepreneurs implementing high-impact projects at the community level.

• Development Grants: Designed for youth-led organizations looking to scale existing initiatives or pilot new interventions in the areas of civic engagement and peacebuilding.

• Catalyst Grants: Awarded to established regional or national organizations capable of managing larger-scale advocacy programs and fostering collaborations across multiple states.

The thematic pillars for this year’s applications include the promotion of “The Nigeria We Want” vision—specifically focusing on good governance, the rule of law, and active citizenship.

The launch comes at a time when Nigeria’s youth demographic, which makes up over 70% of the population, is increasingly seeking structured avenues for political and economic inclusion. Kehinde Ayeni, the Executive Director of LEAP Africa, noted in a statement regarding the fund’s mission that the initiative is rooted in the belief that youth leadership is central to achieving long-term national stability and prosperity.

Beyond the financial disbursement, which ranges from $500 to $50,000 depending on the category, the NYFF incorporates a capacity-building component. Selected grantees will receive training in organizational management, financial transparency, and strategic communication to ensure the sustainability of their projects beyond the funding period.

The fund is open to Nigerian citizens aged between 18 and 35. Organizations applying for the larger Catalyst and Development grants must demonstrate a track record of community impact and possess formal registration with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

Interested applicants are required to submit their proposals through the NYFF application portal, detailing their project objectives, expected outcomes, and budget breakdowns.
