Nigeria Holds IPv6 Roundtable
DigitalSENSE Africa (DSA)Media in collaboration with Nigeria Communications Commission and other stakeholders in the Nigeria ICT ecosystem will hold IPv6 Roundtable 2011,with the theme “IPv6 – Join theplayers” scheduled for Thursday, June 2, 2011 at PlanetOne, Maryland Lagos by 9:00am.
According to the Executive Director Operations at DSA,Mrs Nken Nweke, the aim of this roundtable is to provide a platform for all stakeholders in the country to share IPv6 knowledge and experience, chart a roadmap for early transition to IPv6 as IPv4 addresses run out; promote IPv6-enabled products and services in addition to providing a platform for networking on this very important subject.
It also aims at creating awareness of the Future Internet and potential impact on the country’s economy, encourage participation of Nigeria stakeholders in the Second Internet Initiatives, encouraging greater Research& Development plus investment in activities around the Future Internet.
In addition, it is worthy to note that the World IPv6 Day slated for June 8 is a strategy to encourage successful migration to IPv6
through participation of some key Internet Service Providers like Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Akamai and Limelight networks to offer their contents over IPv6 only for a 24-hour period.
The goal of the Test Flight Day is to motivate organizations across the industry – regulators, operators, Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors, content providers, manufacturers, web companies and key stakeholders; to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out. The Internet is now the global communication network and to join this evolution, Nigerian stakeholders need to integrate IPv6 in all areas.
