MTN is the first African company to enter the Metaverse, acquires 144 plots of digital land
MTN, Africa’s largest telco, has joined the metaverse by purchasing 144 plots of land in Africarare, Africa’s first Virtual Reality metaverse featuring digital land.
The price paid for the land is unknown, but it has a total area of 12x12m.
According to the company’s website and social media handles, this is the case. The new acquisition is in line with MTN’s efforts to transition from a telco to a tech company.

Bernice Samuels, MTN’s Group Executive for Marketing, expressed excitement about the acquisition and reiterated that it was part of the company’s ongoing efforts to stay ahead of technological and digital changes.

MTN intends to increase its customer attractiveness through a series of experiences that merge with consumer passion points such as gaming and music through its presence in the metaverse.
Ubuntuland
Africarare and Mann Made Media created Ubuntuland, an Afro-themed metaverse. It will feature some of the best in African art, fashion, entertainment, sports, technology, and creativity.
The term “metaverse” has been around for a while, but until Facebook’s recent rebranding to Meta, few people knew what it meant. That episode piqued people’s interest in the Metaverse and what it is all about.
Global corporations such as Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Square have made inroads into the metaverse.
With MTN’s foray into the metaverse, the concept has found its way to the concept, which MTN is responsible for bringing closer to home.
