Metaverse: Metaflower Super Mega Yatch Sold for $650,000, Is the Most-Expensive NFT in Sandbox Virtual World
A mega yacht has been sold for a whopping $650,000 in the Sandbox virtual gaming world. This virtual luxury ship, which is part of the metaverse, is called the “Metaflower Super Mega Yacht,” and it has two helipads, hot tubs, and a DJ booth, among other lavish amenities.
The Metaflower yacht has become the most expensive non-fungible token (NFT) to be sold in the Sandbox — a virtual world built on the Ethereum blockchain that allows players to collect digital collectibles, build their own games, and monetise their experiences.
The Metaverse is a three-dimensional, futuristic version of the Internet that has the potential to support a fully functional virtual universe.
The news of this purchase quickly spread on social media, at a time when the concept of the metaverse is beginning to reverberate in the gaming and crypto spaces.
According to the images, this yacht is three-story and white in color. This NFT was paid for with 149 Ether tokens.
Republic Realm, a metaverse developer, released the pricey digital asset. It was created specifically for The Sandbox as part of a luxury NFT series. Other products in this series include private islands, speed boats, and jet skis.
This is not, however, the first time a metaverse property has sold for a large sum of money.
Earlier this month, a plot of land in Decentraland, a decentralized, 3-dimensional virtual reality universe built on the Ethereum blockchain, was sold for $2.43 million. People can purchase plots of land, estates, and wearables for their virtual avatars in order to personalize their experience of living in an alternate reality. All of the items that can be purchased are NFTs — digital collectibles with monetary value.
Another plot of digital land in the virtual gaming world of Axie Infinity was recently purchased for $2.3 million.
According to Bloomberg Intelligence, the market opportunity for the metaverse will be $800 billion by 2024.
Following Facebook’s rebranding to “Meta” earlier this year, other tech behemoths such as Microsoft, Nvidia Omniverse, and Roblox Metaverse are getting into the metaverse groove.
