Meta Rolls Out 3D Avatars for Instagram Stories
Instagram stories and direct messages will now feature 3D avatars, thanks to Meta.
It has also updated its Facebook and Messenger avatars. The update includes new facial shapes as well as assistive devices such as wheelchairs for people with disabilities.
The update is now available in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, as well as other countries where the rollout has already begun. The Facebook parent company has also collaborated with the NFL to create Super Bowl LVI avatar shirts. People can now dress their avatars in limited-edition Cincinnati Bengals or Los Angeles Rams shirts.
Aigerim Shorman, Meta’s General Manager for Avatars and Identity, made the announcement on the company’s official blog.
The updated avatars are now being rolled out on Facebook, Messenger, and, for the first time, Instagram. People can use their virtual likeness to make stickers, feed posts, and Facebook profile pictures, among other things. People can currently create two different avatars, one for Instagram, one for Facebook and Messenger, and a third for VR. Users who have registered with the Accounts Centre can sync their avatars across multiple platforms. Additionally, Facebook users who have previously created an avatar will see it converted to 3D with this update.
The update adds Cochlear implants and over-the-ear hearing aids, as well as new color options for avatars across all platforms.
There will also be a wheelchair, which will be represented by stickers. Meta has also improved the appearance of the avatars by making minor changes to the facial shapes and skin shaders. According to the company, more customisation options will be added to the Avatar editor in 2022.
Meta has announced a collaboration with the NFL to commemorate Super Bowl LVI, which will be held on February 13. It is selling limited-edition Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams t-shirts. These tees will be available until February 28th. There is also a Super Bowl LVI shirt available for non-participating fans.
