Meta is Launching a High-Fashion Clothing Store for Avatars
Meta is launching the Meta Avatar Store, a digital designer apparel store where you can buy digital outfits for your avatars.
In an Instagram Live with Instagram’s Vice President of Fashion Partnerships Eva Chen, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg made the announcement.
The store will open next week, with digital outfits from Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne available in the meantime. Meta will be an open marketplace for developers to produce and sell apparel, according to Zuckerberg. The avatars’ free wardrobe selections will continue to be available.
“On Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger, we’re opening our Avatars Store, where you can buy digital garments to design your avatar. Digital commodities will be a major engine of the creative economy and a means of expressing yourself in the metaverse. I’m looking forward to adding more brands and bringing this to VR as soon as possible. Eva Chen and I put on some of the new Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne styles, which was a nice departure from my terrycloth sweatshirt.” In a statement, Mark Zuckerberg said.
Meta launched 3D avatars on Instagram initially, then upgraded them for Facebook and Messenger. The updates added new expressions, faces, skin tones, and accessibility devices, as well as the ability to use them across all meta platforms, and the company has since been working on ways to improve its avatars.
The new clothing options will be a great opportunity to express oneself while also helping to boost the creative economy.
