Kenya’s Aircart has launched to assist users in selling digital products online
Aircart, a Kenyan startup, has launched an online platform that allows users to sell any digital product using smart links.
Aircart, like international platforms like Gumroad, is a storefront for digital content producers, allowing users to upload a product, select their preferred payment method, and immediately receive a shareable link from which they can directly earn money.
Shadrack Apollo, Wyclif Okwiri, and Hassan Kombo co-founded the startup, which is attempting to tap into the African creator economy and reports steady uptake. Since its June launch, hundreds of users have used the service.
“Our key markets, which have been driving the majority of the activity, are India, the United States, Kenya, and Nigeria.” More than 90% of our users come from these four countries. “We have plans to expand into more countries, but for the time being, our focus is on African countries,” Apollo told Disrupt Africa.
Aircart also intends to launch an NFT marketplace in the future, and it intends to seek capital soon after having been bootstrapped since its inception. The startup charges a 10% commission on each sale made through the link it provides.
