Kenya Power is set to Offer Fixed And Affordable Internet Services
Kenya Power, a power corporation, aspires to become one of Kenya’s largest internet service providers.
The startup intends to package internet and electricity for business users. This will follow pilot tests with more powerful users.
Kenya Power will have 8.59 million customers by December 2021, according to data, including small businesses and huge industrial clients. The fixed internet sector, according to the Communications Authority, is underserved and could give new revenue opportunities.
Kenya Power says it has a three-year strategy to extend internet to homes, with rural areas as a priority.
“We will give a packaged service of energy and internet to our corporate sector customers,” Kenya Power told the Business Daily. “Kenya Power will tap into the market utilizing our enormous network…we will provide corporations the option of using our internet for their primary use or redundancy.”
If you’re concerned about delivery, keep in mind that they’ve been with the company for quite some time.
They currently rent internet service providers fibre-optic links connected to transmission lines. Furthermore, ISPs have taken advantage of Kenya Power’s large power transmission network to reduce cable laying costs.
Kenya Power says it has a three-year plan to bring internet to households, with rural areas being the key focus. They have a cheap entrance cost since they already have a solid transmission network in rural Kenya. They also want to provide low-cost bundles in order to win market share.
