Jumia Unveils new Warehouse and Logistics Facility in Kenya
Jumia is a tech company that is constantly in the news. From diversifying into Q-commerce to expanding into other tech fields, the company’s accomplishments explain why it is the leading e-commerce platform in the African countries in which it operates.
Jumia has now launched an integrated warehouse and logistics network facility in Nairobi, Kenya’s technological hub, to improve its operations.
The 11,000-square-metre warehouse will serve as a hub for various Jumia services and will increase Jumia’s warehousing capacity in the region. The warehouse will also eliminate the need to transport items from warehouses to sorting centers (where orders are typically processed to users), lowering operational logistics costs and reducing first-mile delivery gas emissions.
The new operations center is strategically located near the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the new Nairobi Expressway on Mombasa Road.
“We were able to consolidate our multiple warehouses and network operations under one roof thanks to the new integrated facility.” This will assist us in improving our fulfillment operations to be more efficient and scalable, thus meeting our future needs as the business grows,” said Juan Seco, CEO of Jumia Kenya.
Another service that will benefit from this facility is Jumia Express, a Fulfilled-by-Jumia service that allows Jumia sellers to warehouse their products with Jumia in order to ensure faster deliveries and reduce out-of-stock order cancellations.
Ankur Agarwal, Jumia Services Country Manager, explained how the facility helps Jumia’s sustainability practices: “The convergence of our operations has helped us to reduce up to 15 truck trips per day, enabling us to significantly reduce carbon emissions.” We will continue to look for ways to positively impact the environment.”
Jumia is also expanding its logistics offering to other local e-commerce players who are not listed on the platform but want to “leverage its network, technology, and expertise for last-mile and line haul deliveries.”
This new location is a breath of fresh air for Jumia’s employees because it provides better working conditions, more space, and a more accessible location than the e-commerce giant’s previous locations.
