Google Launches Application Window for AI-Focused Africa Accelerator Programme
Google has opened applications for the tenth edition of its accelerator programme targeting growth-stage tech ventures across Africa, marking a continued commitment to nurturing artificial intelligence development on the continent.
The three-month initiative centres on companies at the Series A funding stage that are building AI and machine learning capabilities into their products. Selected participants will work directly with Google’s technical teams while accessing the company’s suite of AI tools and resources.
Applications remain open through 18 March, with the programme scheduled to begin in April and conclude with a demonstration day in June. Between 10 and 15 startups will be selected for this cohort.
Programme Structure and Benefits
The accelerator operates through a hybrid model combining remote sessions with in-person workshops. Participating companies receive equity-free support, pairing founders with Google specialists to address specific technical challenges identified by each startup.
Access extends to Google’s early testing programmes for AI products, alongside cloud computing credits for eligible companies. The programme also provides access to Google’s Tensor Processing Units, which are designed to accelerate machine learning research.
Eligibility Requirements
Google is seeking startups that have demonstrated market traction and built scalable solutions with defensible business models. Technical leadership commitment is essential—CTOs and senior technical staff must participate actively in programme sessions.
The initiative welcomes applications from companies headquartered in Africa or those developing solutions specifically for African markets. While the programme emphasises AI and machine learning integration, Google has stated its openness to applications from all qualified startups.
Context for African Tech Ecosystem
The announcement comes as Africa’s technology sector continues expanding its focus on artificial intelligence applications. Previous cohorts of Google’s Africa accelerator have included companies working across fintech, healthcare, agriculture, and logistics—sectors where AI integration is increasingly viewed as critical for scale.
The application deadline of 18 March gives prospective participants two weeks to submit their proposals through Google’s programme portal. Companies can review detailed programme information and eligibility criteria at the same address.
Google has run nine previous iterations of this accelerator since establishing the Africa-specific programme, supporting ventures from markets including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and Egypt.
