Google, HP & UpSkill Launch ‘Skills for Business 2025’ to Empower African SMEs

The 2025 “Skills for Business” initiative was started by UpSkill Universe in collaboration with Google and HP Inc. to equip 10,000 SMEs in South Africa and Nigeria with the digital and business skills they need to thrive and survive.
By the end of 2025, the program is expected to directly teach 10,000 SMEs and indirectly affect an additional 59,000 people.
“African entrepreneurs are already bringing about change in their communities,” UpSkill Universe CEO Gori Yahaya stated. “In today’s demanding business environment, this program gives them the tools, technologies, and AI-driven insights they need to grow and scale.”
Access to HP LIFE’s online platform and useful modules in the following areas are included in the training:
Artificial Intelligence
Digital Marketing
E-commerce
These are tailored to help SMEs boost productivity, attract customers, and scale online.
Google brings deep expertise in digital strategy and growth for small businesses.
“Small businesses are key drivers of progress. It’s critical they have access to the right digital tools and skills,” said Kristy Grant, Head of B2B & Brand Marketing, Google SSA.
Michele Malejki, HP’s Global Head of Social Impact, noted that the programme supports HP’s mission to advance digital equity for 150 million people by 2030.
