Google Expands Gemini’s Deep Research Feature to Workspace Apps and Makes It Free
Gemini, Google’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, received a new function on Wednesday. The Deep Research tool, which can now connect to other Google Workspace platforms and evaluate data stored there to produce more thorough reports, is the latest addition. With this, the IT behemoth from Mountain View has also made significant progress in strengthening Gemini’s ecosystem integration. It’s interesting to note that it’s a free function, so anyone without a subscription can utilize it.
Gemini Deep Research Is Now Integrated with Workspace Platforms
The tech behemoth revealed and explained the new features in Deep Research in a blog post. To refresh your memory, the company’s agentic tool, Deep Research, develops a thorough research plan based on the prompt and then carries it out. When the tool was first introduced, Google referred to it as a research helper that may be helpful for both scientists and students preparing a fresh thesis.
The functionality only used data from the internet or a user-uploaded document to generate the report at the time. However, users may now link it to Google Drive, which has Google Chat, Gmail, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and PDFs. In order to extract and analyze data, it may access files, emails, chat conversations, and more. It may be found on the website right now, and mobile apps will be accessible shortly.
The functionality is quite simple to use. When you choose Deep Research from the Tools menu after visiting the Gemini website, a new option called Sources will show up. Four additional options—Search, Drive, Gmail, and Chat—will appear when you click on it. The tool will perform a standard web-based search to find information if you simply pick Search. However, users only need to choose their Gmail, Drive, and Chat accounts to ground the tool. They will be able to produce reports on their data and projects thanks to this.
“You can start a market analysis for a new product by having Deep Research analyze your team’s initial brainstorming docs, related email threads, and project plans,” the post stated as an example of what customers can do with this new feature.
