Google Docs Adds Emoji Reactions in Latest Workspace Update
Emoji, the most popular way to express ourselves on social media, has made its way to Google Workspace, allowing users to react to any content on Google Docs by simply using a symbol rather than writing a comment or remark on it.
Google announced in a Google Workspace update that the feature now supports all emojis in the most recent release. Gender-neutral options are also available.
When you highlight text, the emoji reaction feature will appear as a third option alongside ‘Add Comment’ and ‘Suggest Edits.’ These responses, according to Google, are a less formal alternative to comments.
“Giving and receiving feedback is an important part of the collaborative workflow in Google Docs. The new emoji reactions feature allows you to express your thoughts on document content in a less formal way than comments “Google announced the news on its announcement blog.
Emoji reactions are coming to Google Docs at a time when the service is transitioning from being a word processor to more of a remote working collaboration tool.
Google is now rolling out the feature for rapid release domains, but it will be available to most Google Docs users after April 20.
The latest update, which includes emoji, will be available to Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus subscribers, but not to Enterprise Essentials.
