Elizabeth Rogo Has Been Appointed To The Board Of Directors Of The National Oil Corporation Of Kenya
Elizabeth Rogo, President (East Africa), African Energy Chamber, has been appointed to the National Oil Corporation of Kenya’s board of directors.
Elizabeth is a professional engineer with more than 21 years of experience in the energy industry. She is expected to lead the National Oil Corporation of Kenya’s efforts to improve oil and gas exploration, production, monetization, and exploitation.
“The AEC applauds Kenya’s government for its ongoing efforts to ensure gender diversity in the energy sector.” “We believe that forces like Elizabeth Rogo will help this NOC become a world-class corporation that not only meets our future energy needs, but will also play an important role in ensuring that energy poverty is addressed in Kenya and across the African continent by 2030 through the exploitation of domestic resources,” says NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of AEC.
The AEC is also confident that the appointment of a strong fighter and role model like Rogo will lead to success in Kenya’s energy sector.
Stakeholders such as Rogo will play an important role in assisting Africa in developing its own narrative of what a just and inclusive energy transition looks like. This is also something we will be discussing at the upcoming African Energy Week,” he added.
Kenya’s proven crude oil reserves of over four billion barrels and a largely undeveloped natural gas sector will be critical to improving the country’s energy access. Rogo’s appointment to the National Oil Corporation’s board of directors is a game changer in that regard. Rogo’s experience in oil and gas production will help shape the country’s direction in optimizing oil production to meet domestic energy needs, with fossil fuels accounting for 32.5 percent of Kenya’s energy mix.
Despite having massive oil reserves, Kenya is a net importer of oil and fuel and spends a lot of money on imports, which is putting a strain on the country’s economy. Furthermore, with recent geopolitical developments such as the Russian-Ukraine war raising global crude oil prices, Kenya’s economy’s vulnerability to global price volatility has increased, highlighting the need for Kenya to step up its game in exploiting domestic energy resources. Rogo-like forces are critical to Kenya’s success.
Furthermore, with a lack of adequate investments stifling the growth of Kenya’s hydrocarbons segment in recent years, Rogo’s experience in developing strong strategic partnerships with TSAVO Oilfield Services and as a Business Development Manager with Weatherford will be critical in assisting the National Oil Corporation of Kenya in attracting foreign direct investments to improve midstream and downstream infrastructure development.
Furthermore, with Kenya attempting to maximize the monetization of its oil resources in order to drive GDP growth, which the World Bank predicts will be 5% in 2022, Rogo’s Sales and Marketing experience with Baker Hughes will assist the National Oil Corporation in optimizing the marketing of petroleum products.
Rogo is the Founder and CEO of TSAVO Oilfield Services, a leading Kenyan energy consulting firm with extensive international and East African experience. Rogo’s experience in leading oil and gas operations for international companies such as BJ Services, Baker Hughes, and Weatherford in the United States, the United Kingdom, Angola, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Mozambique is critical in increasing oil and gas exploration, production, and exploitation to help Kenya address energy poverty and accelerate economic growth.
Her appointment follows the appointment of Anne Muraya as the new CEO of audit and consulting firm Deloitte East Africa, making her the first woman to hold the position.
