Egyptian fitness app Welnes completes $300k in seed funding round
App for Egyptian fitness Welnes has closed a seed funding round of $300,000 to expand its team and prepare for GCC expansion by 2023.
Welnes, which was founded in 2020 by Amr Saleh and Amr Diab, is a community app that assists users in achieving their weight-loss and lifestyle goals by providing them with customized nutrition and workout plans.
The programs are delivered in a group setting, and the app includes a strong gamification model to keep users motivated and committed. Welnes has assisted over 15,000 users who have uploaded 500,000 meal photos and received over five million likes.
Flat6Labs led the startup’s $300,000 funding round, which also included Samurai Incubate, UI Investments, and a group of angel investors.
It was closed in January and will be used to grow the Welnes team and prepare for the startup’s expansion to the GCC by 2023.
“Our customers love the product; they come for the nutrition and workout plans, but they stay for the community,” Welnes co-founder and CEO Amr Saleh said. “We have a very strong technical team that built a great product that we can’t wait to spread across all market segments.”
Flat6Labs’ chief investment officer, Dina el-Shenoufy, stated that her firm understood that the team and market potential were the most important factors in evaluating successful ventures.
“Having invested alongside Amr before, we are quite confident of his ability to execute on capturing the nascent but strongly growing market of healthy living in the Middle East. Amr and his stellar team are developing the perfect platform to aid clients in achieving just that,” she said.
