Africa’s leading ICT Journalist-Bayero Agabi Bags Honorary Doctorate Degree
One of Africa’s leading ICT broadcast journalist and analyst Bayero Agabi has been conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by the prestigious Commonwealth University.
Describing Bayero Agabi the Prof. Michael Addison Chancellor of the Commonwealth University Belize said he contribution to the development of information and communication technology growth in Africa is worthy of note. According to him The Honorary Doctorate Degree Award of the Commonwealth University is a unique award that is especially reserved for personalities who have distinguished themselves in the society through selfless service and other outstanding contributions through which the lives of many have been touched positively.
Bayero Agabi who holds a master’s degree in public administration is currently the president of the prestigious Alumni Association of the Pan Atlantic Unversity. Known as Nigeria’s leading ICT broadcast journalist, he remains the only African journalist to have won the prestigious UNECA/AISI (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa/Africa Information Society Media Awards) twice for best African ICT reporting, research and local content. Bayero Agabi pioneered ICT on television with a programme known as AIT INFOTECH NETWORK in Nigeria now Africa’s leading and most popular ICT programme on television over a decade ago in Nigeria. So far, he has won over 30 awards both local and international for his efforts at promoting ICT development on the continent. Some of his awards include Excellence Award from Association of Telecoms Operator of Nigeria, Nigeria Computer Society as Best ICT reporter for three years consecutively both on Radio and Television, Excellence Award from International Federation for Excellence, Excellence Award from Economic Students Association, UNIBEN and in December 2009 Bayero Agabi won the industry’s highest award for ICT reporting AS THE BEST ICT REPORTER OF THE YEAR organized by the NIGERIA COMPUTER SOCIETY the largest computer association in Africa.
Bayero has also undergone several trainings in broadcast journalism, television presentation, computer professional certification, and telecoms marketing with relevant organizations such as Lagos Business School, Nigeria Television College and BBC/AIT training courses. Bayero also holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration. (MPA). He is a proud member of IDPM Institute of Data Processing of Nigeria and the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations NIPR chattered. Member, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ). Bayero Agabi journalism career has spanned over a decade starting as a film editor with Channels Television in 1993.
In appreciating the honour Bayero said he is overwhelmed that such a could come to him from a global institution adding that he is encouraged to do more especially now that the world has become a global village.
