Africa Data Centres has opened a world-class 10MW data center in Lagos
Africa Data Centres (ADC), the continent’s largest network of interconnected, carrier- and cloud-neutral data center facilities, has opened its new 10MW data center facility in Lagos, Nigeria.
According to the firm, the new facility will pave the path for Africa Data Centres‘ hyperscale customers to implement digital solutions to West Africa.
According to Stephane Duproz, CEO of Africa Data Centres, Nigeria is one of the company’s core markets since there is a fast expanding need for data centers in the region, which is eager for digitalisation as African organizations of all sizes speed their digital transformation journeys.
According to him, as part of the recently created Cassava Technologies group, ADC plays a crucial role in delivering the digital infrastructure required to facilitate the region’s mass adoption of digital services for consumers and companies.
Duproz also revealed that the new facility is the first of four planned for Nigeria, and that the business plans to create an additional facility in Lagos at a separate location to assure full disaster backup, as well as facilities in Abuja and Port Harcourt.
With this in mind, Duproz regards the Lagos operations as a key milestone for Africa Data Centres, highlighting the immense potential opportunities that the company sees not only for its business in the region, but for Africa as a whole.
“Africa Data Centre is witnessing an unprecedented demand for fintech services, apps, broadband, cloud technologies, and more, all of which are seeing data demand skyrocket.”
This news comes on the heels of ADC’s recently announced massive data center expansion plans, which would see the business create hyperscale data centers across Africa.
“These are the best plans Africa has ever seen.” They will see us develop ten linked, cloud- and carrier-neutral data centers throughout the continent, in an unprecedented $500 million investment in Africa’s digital transformation, which will double our already large investment in the continent,” Duproz says.
The 10MW facility in Lagos is an important part of this expansion since Nigeria is a critical African market for hyperscale customers looking to deploy digitization solutions in West Africa.
The new Lagos facility represents a big step forward in Africa Data Centres’ ambitious long-term aspirations to close the digital divide and digitise the continent by delivering these services to enterprises and individuals alike, he says.
According to Duproz, the Lagos facility would serve as the de facto headquarters for Africa Data Centres in West Africa. “We developed this facility in response to tremendous demand from hyperscalers, key cloud operators, and multinational organizations that already utilize our facilities and have indicated interest in helping to bring digitisation at scale to West Africa.” We were the obvious choice as partners in their expansion goals as the undisputed leaders in data center operations in Africa.”
According to Duproz, the Nigerian data centers are part of a Continental network of data centers being built in all of Africa’s major cities.
However, Duproz emphasizes that the environment will not be sacrificed in order to carry out the company’s ambitious digitisation objectives. “This is a trade-off that Africa Data Centres is just not willing to entertain.” Our plan is centered on empowering and uplifting African citizens, as well as conserving the environment and boosting the economy.”
Finally, Duproz claims that this latest Nigerian facility will improve the economy by creating jobs, as digitization is known to provide job chances across a wide range of businesses.
