MEST Africa Opens Applications for Digital Marketing Program to Tackle Youth Unemployment
The Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) Africa, in collaboration with Generation Ghana and the Mastercard Foundation, has announced the opening of applications for the latest cohort of its specialized digital marketing training. The 12-week program is designed to equip young Africans with high-demand technical skills to improve their employability in an increasingly digitized global economy.
Bridging the Digital Talent Gap
As the continent’s digital economy expands, the demand for proficient digital marketers has outpaced the available talent pool. This initiative, hosted at the MEST Accra campus, targets unemployed or underemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 35. The curriculum focuses on practical application, covering essential pillars such as content strategy, social media management, search engine optimization (SEO), and data analytics.
According to a statement by MEST Africa, the program is part of a broader commitment to fostering economic inclusion by providing tuition-free education to eligible candidates. By removing financial barriers, the organizers aim to reach participants who demonstrate high potential but lack the resources to pursue professional certification in the tech sector.
A Partnership for Scalable Impact
The program operates through a tripartite partnership. Generation Ghana, a global non-profit focused on the “education-to-employment” transition, provides the pedagogical framework. Support is also provided by the Mastercard Foundation under its Young Africa Works strategy, which seeks to enable 30 million young people to secure dignified work by 2030.
MEST Africa, founded in 2008 by Jorn Lyseggen, has evolved from a training program into a pan-African ecosystem providing critical infrastructure for startups. With its primary hub in Ghana and a history of supporting entrepreneurs from Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa, the institution remains a central player in the continent’s venture space. This particular training cycle reflects a shift toward addressing immediate workforce needs alongside long-term entrepreneurial development.
Application Requirements and Deadlines
To qualify for the upcoming cohort, applicants must have completed at least secondary education and demonstrate a strong commitment to pursuing a career in marketing. The program’s hybrid nature—combining intensive classroom learning with career mentorship—is structured to ensure graduates are “job-ready” upon completion.
The initiative comes at a critical time for West African labor markets, particularly in Ghana and Nigeria, where youth unemployment remains a pressing policy challenge. By aligning vocational training with the specific needs of the private sector, MEST and its partners are attempting to create a sustainable pipeline of talent for the region’s growing tech hubs.
Interested individuals can find further details and apply through the official MEST Africa portal or the Generation Ghana program page. Applications are currently being processed on a rolling basis for the next session scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
