Instagram Map With Location Sharing Launches Together With Reposts and a Friends Tab Inspired by TikTok

Three new features are being added to Instagram, a platform for sharing photos and videos. According to the firm, its new Instagram map feature was inspired by rival Snapchat’s Snap Map function and is intended to display users’ friends’ locations on a map. Similar to TikTok, Instagram will also let users repost reels and posts and introduce a new Friends option in Reels. What a person reposts on their profile will also be seen to others.
Instagram Offers Indian Users Reposts and a Friends Tab in Reels
Gadgets 360 was able to verify that the Reposts and Friends area in the Reels tab are already accessible to users in India, as part of the three new additions that the Meta-owned social media platform revealed. In the meanwhile, the US now has access to Instagram’s location-sharing map feature.
Instagram users can utilize the first feature to repost other users’ public reels and posts, which will also be suggested to their friends and followers. Additionally, the reposts will show up in a different tab on a user’s profile, forming an archive that users can access. Nonetheless, the original contributor is given credit for the republished movies and posts.
Reshared posts and reels from content creators will be visible to non-followers of the Instagram user, possibly expanding the content’s audience. According to the blog, all it takes is tapping on the recently added button to repost a reel or post. By typing into the “thought bubble” that appears on the screen and then clicking the “save” button, users will also have the option to add a note to the item they have shared.
How the New Map Feature on Instagram Works
The Snapchat-like feature that displays a user’s position served as a major inspiration for the new Instagram Map. In addition to being able to disable it at any moment, Instagram users will be able to choose which friends they want to see their most recent active location. Additionally, it will display the material that their followers are posting from various locations. Every time a user opens the app, their location will be updated.
Instagram claims that users must actively enable location sharing because it is blocked by default. Users of the social media app can also personalize their location. Parents may monitor their teen’s location sharing options on Instagram in addition to choosing who can view their map. When their children begin sharing their location with others, Instagram will notify the parent or guardian.
On top of this, Instagram Map will display location-based content to people. Location-tagged content will be shown on the map, like reels, posts, and stories from people a user follows, which will be available for 24 hours after it has been posted, along with notes from other users people mutually follow. Instagram Map, which is currently only available in the US, has been added to the inbox section.
The Reels tab now has a new “Friends” section thanks to the third and final feature. Publicly shared reels that others have either interacted with or that were included in Blends’ suggestions will be visible to the public. Users will be able to “easily” start discussions over reposted content, according to Instagram. The function, which is now accessible in India, may be customized to mute activity bubbles from users they follow and to hide a user’s likes and comments on reels.
