Here’s how to Participate in MTN’s Hackathon for African Developers
An Open API Hackathon for African developers has been launched by the Mobile Money Application Interface (API) of MTN Group. The competition is open from July 18, 2022, to September 9, 2022.
Developers will receive four weeks to submit their concept for cutting-edge financial and transactional software, which must use MTN Mobile Money APIs.
It will take place in eSwatini, Zambia, Congo Brazzaville, Rwanda, Uganda, Cameroon, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, and Guinea Conakry. This hackathon will be the second organized by MTN Group Fintech.
For the markets in which they are registered, developers will compete to produce a cutting-edge application that can process financial transactions with additional features that go beyond processing payments and promote both financial inclusion and literacy. The mobile application must be directed at customers, retailers, or companies.
According to Serigne Dioum, MTN Group Chief Fintech Officer, “MTN is committed to extending financial and digital inclusion across the continent as part of its strategy to build a pan-African Fintech platform that will power the digital economy and act as a catalyst for social and economic growth in Africa.”
“By using our MoMo Platform, we reach out to Africa’s creative talent and give them the tools they need to develop and create opportunities. We are certain that working with African talent will help us increase the range of services offered on MoMo,” he continued.
The top 12 applicants in each participating nation will ultimately be chosen by MTN to move on to the prototyping stage. The preselected applicants will have to provide the adjudicator a live demonstration of their application. On the MoMo Hackathon 2022 website, developers who are interested in participating can learn more about the challenge.
Finalists have a chance to take home up to $5,000 in prize money in their home nations.
