Google to Discontinue YouTube Go in August
YouTube Go will be decommissioned in August. A message on Google’s help page officially confirmed the move. Users of YouTube Go should upgrade to the normal YouTube app, according to Google.
They can also go straight to the webpage using the Web browser.
For consumers with low-end hardware or weak data connections, the YouTube Go app was released in 2016. The Go version also lacks numerous critical functions, such as the “ability to remark, post, create content, and employ Dark theme.”
The main YouTube has been optimized throughout the years to give an enhanced performance on entry-level cellphones and sluggish network connections, according to a Google post.
Future improvements, according to the business, will cut data usage for users with limited data access. The YouTube Go app has become obsolete as a result of all of these enhancements and future updates to the main app. Furthermore, since 2016, when this software was first released, the capabilities of low-end devices have vastly improved. To recall, the app was created from the ground up with India in mind, but it was also made available in other developing markets.
On the Google Play store, the YouTube Go app has over 500 million downloads. Notably, the app has not gotten a new update since October 2021, implying that it had been put on hold for some time.
Google has been continually updating the YouTube app and adding new features. It just made the Super Thanks available to the general public, allowing users to tip content creators while watching their films. Content developers can use this tool to lessen their reliance on adverts. In addition, there was a recent report that YouTube might be getting a dedicated Podcasts homepage. This rumored update could also include audio-only advertisements on the site.
