WhatsApp Group Polls Feature Seen in Development on the Most Recent iOS Beta
According to a popular WhatsApp feature tracker, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to create polls in group chats.
The world’s most popular messaging service is currently working on a few features that will not be available to beta testers, including the ability to respond to specific messages with emoji. Group polls are currently available in other messaging services such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and Threema, and they may eventually make their way to a future version of WhatsApp.
WABetaInfo, a feature leaker, discovered a new group polls feature in development on the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iOS.
Because the feature is still in development, users cannot access it even on the most recent beta version of WhatsApp for iOS. The feature tracker shared a screenshot of the process of adding a new poll to a group on WhatsApp for iOS, giving users an idea of what the feature will look like once it is available.
According to the image shared by WABetaInfo, when a user chooses to add a new group poll, WhatsApp will prompt them to enter the poll question.
Because the feature is still in development, it is unclear whether WhatsApp will ask users to add poll options later, whether group admins will be able to edit poll options, whether polls will have a time limit, and how many poll options can be added.
According to the feature tracker, the new group polls feature, like messages, attachments, and calls made on WhatsApp, should be protected by end-to-end encryption. This should ensure that only the members of the group can see the poll and its results. While the feature has been spotted on WhatsApp for iOS, it is expected to make its way to WhatsApp for Android and WhatsApp Desktop in the near future.
As previously stated, messaging services such as Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and Threema now allow users to add group polls, allowing them to make quick decisions in a group. Group polls can also help declutter a group chat and organize responses to questions, such as planning a team outing or choosing between different event venue options. It is currently unknown when WhatsApp will make the feature available to users. The feature may change during development before it is made available to all users.
