Google Meet has been updated for Premium Workspace users with support for up to 500 attendees
Google Meet has been updated to support up to 500 participants in Premium Workspace video conferencing services.
The company has updated the service, which has grown in popularity with the rise of teleworking during the COVID-19 epidemic, so that users using more expensive applications can have conversations with more participants.
The new limit is still half the number supported by Microsoft Teams, which now allows 1,000 people to participate in a video conference.
The company announced the changes in a blog post saying that customers with the Google Workspace Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, and Education Plus plans can now make Google Meet calls with up to 500 participants.
Customers with other plans are not covered by this update. “We hope that as the meeting volume increases, communication and collaboration with your colleagues, clients and customers will be easier,” said the company.
The new participant limit for video sessions allows Google Workspace customers to add additional users to the corporate service.
Note, however, that Microsoft’s competing teams are now allowing 1,000 users to participate in the Thames video conference. Google Meet, on the other hand, allows customers to enable live streaming and allows 100,000 viewers to set it up at the same time.
According to Google, the new eligible customer restrictions will apply to eligible users on November 16. Google has updated its video conferencing service over the past few months with several new features, including an audio and video lock feature that the host can use to mute participants during a call.
In September, the company announced significant changes to its desktop, including support for voice and video calling through the Gmail app, as part of the company’s efforts to compete with competing services like Microsoft 365.
The company is also testing the live translation feature for select paid users, while users can also use the automatic brightness adjustment feature for video calls.
